Business interruption
Robert has been active as a property and business interruption expert since late 2014. He joined Context as a full-time employee in February 2026. Analytical by nature, he enjoys handling complex business interruption cases, whether or not they involve material damage or machinery breakdown as the underlying cause. Robert has extensive experience in assessing and calculating business interruption losses in the (sustainable) energy, manufacturing, logistics, retail, and leisure sectors, including hotels and holiday parks. He is also highly experienced in acting as a party-appointed expert. Robert thrives on untangling chaos and developing the right model to determine business interruption losses with precision.
After completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam—with a major in Corporate Finance & Investments and minors in Valuation and ERP—Robert began his career at Rabobank Group as a risk analyst in the areas of operational and corporate credit risk. In 2014, he transitioned into the field of business interruption and financial loss assessment, conducting investigations into property damage, fraud, and arbitration matters. He later joined McLarens (formerly Vanderwal & Joosten) as a senior business interruption expert, where he further specialized in calculating large and complex business interruption losses.
Robert was born and raised in Canada and had the privilege of living in Toronto until the age of 18. With great pleasure, he still visits Canada regularly. In his free time, Robert enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also loves cooking and barbecues all year round — even in winter.
Robert speaks fluent Dutch in addition to his native language (English).
